Long term safety and support plans can be developed with the children, family and their safety and support network. The network is made up of a range of people, and could include family members, professionals, carers, and community members. These network members will support parents, children and young people to develop and maintain safety through case planning and safety planning.
The extended family network provides lifelong learning opportunities for all family members. In the case of a parent or child with disability (which is likely to be permanent), long term safety and support plans can play a key role in creating safety for the child on an ongoing basis.
Refer to the practice guide Safety assessment and planning for further information.
